What did you want to be when you were little?
I have pretty much always wanted to do the same thing.
I wanted to run a daycare and be a Mom. My whole life. I used to make up stories that my mom, a sister, 2 or 3 sisters at 1 time even - was having a baby. I remember putting random objects under my shirt to make it look like I was pregnant. I would even leave the house like that...
I don't know what my problem was. I was weird. Still am. Really.
I was always into dolls, barbies, playing house, being a mom. ALL THE TIME. My mom would watch kids in the neighborhood and when they came over- they were mine. I would argue with my Mom what these kids could and couldn't do. I would put on carnivals, plays, dance classes for the kids in my neighborhood. All in hopes the little ones would come play with me.
Your probably thinking I'm some weird crazy lady that you don't want your kids around :)
Believe me, looking back, I scare myself a little.
I have definitely stepped back on the "Mom" to all role.
I have always said I want 5 kids. Yeah-- 5---
Ryan always said he wouldn't have more than 2.
Ummm,
I told him I wouldn't marry him if he didn't give me at least 3. So 3 it was. Our "magic" number. Ha. If we count Milo and Harley-- We are done in the offspring department... woohoo... time to plan our retirement!
Right after I graduated I decided my plan was to get back into the kid world.
I wanted to work at a daycare. I applied to a couple places but decided against them since I found a better job working at a fabulous call center!
I went from that call center to a PT office to another call center. In between each job I applied at a daycare center. Each time I was offered a job but turned it down because of the lack of money.
WTF
I gave up my childhood dream because I needed a little extra dough in the wallet.
Yes. That is me. Dream killer.
As time has gone on, I realize it wasn't in the plan for me to work in my "Dream Job" because the path I have lead has brought me to where I am now. I have been given amazing opportunities. Work with incredible people. Because of this path I have now created a whole new amazing path for our future.
So what do I want to be when I grow up...
I'm working hard and doing everything I need to in order to get there. The sacrifices we are making in life will lead us to that "Dream" ending.
No its not running a daycare. Although I would love every second of that.
Its a totally different world that I ever imagined being in. It wasn't in my plan, it wasn't in my dreams, it wasn't at all what I was "suppose" to do in life. But like everything else- Life happened. So here I go. Diving in with both feet. Luckily I have the support of an amazing husband, amazing family and friends... even if they think we are nuts and totally ruining what we have worked so hard for, they still love us and will support our crazy new world.
For that- I'm so grateful.
For us, we are totally freaking out. Can you say lets totally change our life AGAIN!
Ill be in school for a WHILE longer. Feels like the rest of my life. HUGE changes are coming.
The reason/individual behind it all.... bet you will never guess..... HA.
So why am I being so secretive and vague. Because its now up to you to figure it out!
I wanted to play a little game and I wanted to see if any of you could guess what the heck I'm even talking about. I have seen other bloggies do this so I figure I would give it a shot.
Its time for a giveaway!
What you will need to try and guess is what this whole big CHANGE will be, what am I going to be when i grow up!
Maybe ill help narrow it down for you...
Hint:
#1 Its a real profession
#2 The person behind it all is none other than my Makenzie Rye
#3 Schooling will be had for a LONG time
#4 It will require a big change in our life outside of school as well
So maybe those are not such great hints but it might help some.

I'm going to guess a nurse. You have compassion and a heart that would make you the perfect nurse! I'm on the same journey and feel like I'll be in school forever.
whatever it is I know you'll do great, you have great inspiration and I know MaKenzie Rye will be proud of her mama no matter what.
Can I have two guesses? I am going to anyway....I have to agree with Carley above, my first guess was a nurse and you would be incredible!! What a gift you would be to the families and individuals you come into contact with and from going through what you have with Kenzie you have an 'insiders view' like noone else.
My second guess would be a councellor. I think you could offer other grieving families so much and the schooling would probably help you through some of the feelings, thoughts etc you are going through as well-bonus! I think your experiences would help people in all walks of life, marital problems, 'finding themselves' etc etc.....
All I know is you have so many options and I know you will be incredible at whatever you choose!
I can't wait to hear for sure but wish you all the best in whatever it is!
Hugs, Em
PS, I don't think you are crazy at all, I always had the same dreams and did those same silly things....okay, maybe i am just crazy too! :-)
Oh, and the pic of you, I'd take it...can you make it one with you and Kenzie, they always make me smile! ;-)
Not to sound repetative... but I guess nurse or councellor...
Everyone always asks me what did I want to be when I grew up... the answer has always been a mom... the other jobs that I have just allow me to do my passion.

I'm going to guess P.A or a peds doctor. Because that is SO much schooling but you would be incredible at it :)
I know! I know! :)
Guess I can't play though. Hehe. Love the idea of playing a game with it.
I'm so excited for your new adventure!!
Im going to guess something to do with a doctor in neuro medicine
First of all, I think this change is great! But, I am going to say a PICU/NICU nurse or a peds physician specializing in SMARD/SMA.
First, I was thinking nurse, then I was thinking what Heather is guessing. So, I'm going to go with Pediatrician/Nero-disease specialist. How fun! I'm excited to hear what you have decided.
Oh Kendra! I love this post... it has to be a NICU/PICU nurse or possibly a Doctor - I would probably guess that your specialty will be working with children who suffer from SMARD. With all that you have done for Kenzie so far this year, you would be AMAZING at this. You have been able to give SMARD a face...the adorable little face of Kenzie. I wish you the very best of luck in your new journey...

oh geeze, i have so many ideas. do i really only get one guess?
so i'm guessing you are going to quit work and go to school FULL TIME. i'm wondering if the school is here or in another state?
the ultimate goal/profession? enough sponsors and passionate people to allow you to have a research and patient clinic specifically for children with SMA and SMARD. this clinic (house) will not have the feel of a hospital and parents will be able to stay with their children and have all the support/amenities needed to have a comfortable stay (kind of with a "make a wish foundation" feel to it). would that be considered a facility coordinator/project manager?
whatever it is you have decided is going to be amazing because YOU ARE AMAZING!
i can't wait to hear what it is.
when i find out, i'll tell you my other guesses.
love ya!
Apparently, I'm in with several others. I'm guessing either a nurse or a pediatric doctor and you would be fabulous!
I have to be a little different and guess it will be in research somehow. A friend of mine worked for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and he went to schooling for like 10 years. I'm saying some kind of research analyst for SMA or other genetic diseases. Although I think you would do well in nursing or a peds counsellor as well.
Whatever you decide I know you will do well. If you have something driving you to succeed, you always fare better. Good luck!

Oh heck I guess I will be a little different and guess a genetic doctor. :) Or any of the above answers too. So proud of you!!

Because of the amount of schooling, my 1st guess is a Peds doctor. That is what came to mind first. But as I thought about it more, I wonder about research. So my second guess (can we have two?) is a Medical Researcher specializing in research in SMARD. That would also take a lot of schooling
I'm going to guess doctor!
Aww! Congratulations on the life change! Can't wait to read all about your adventures.
My guess is going to be a doctor of some sort.
Second guess is nurse.
I wish I had a creative guess, but I will go with nurse. I can't wait to hear!
Biomedical scientist??
My guess is something to do with the research of SMARD. Which I would think would take maybe a masters? That's a lot of schooling!
I cannot wait to hear about what your plans are going to be. No matter what you will be amazing - like you already are!
So I want to change my guess (is that legal?).
I decided that you (and possibly Ryan?) are going to quit your jobs and go around to different schools (universities? elementaries???) and raise awareness of SMARD by sharing your sweet little Makenzie's story.
You are also going to do this in hopes of getting grants for research and maybe find a potential someone (neuro student?)who is drawn to your story, that he or she will want to help find a cure for SMARD as well.
So, you will be President and Founder of the M.R.W. foundation.
Whatever it is you will be awesome at it, but I am going to be selfish cause it means you are going to be shining that sunshine smile somehwere else every morning. I am going to miss you somethin awful. So can I be the lioiser of the ontest so I casn have the autographed picture of you?
Everyone "stole" my guesses! :) whatever it is, you are sure to be amazing at it, and making Kenzie very proud. My initial guess was a NICU nurse, so perhaps I'll stick with that, although I am also guessing some sort of researcher...Can't wait to hear what it is!
I'm going out on a limb.......I think you would be a wonderful nurse, doctor, researcher or whatever but I think you really want to be a veterinarian..... Ha Ha I don't really know what it is but you love dogs so maybe that's it. Whatever you do with your life, it will be a good choice. You've already accomplished a lot of wonderful things with your fund raiser and leggins projects. Your daughter will continue to inspire you to reach for the stars. If all you ever did in life was to be a good wife, mother, friend, daughter, niece, aunt, or cousin, that would be ok with me. I think you can do amazing things in this life because you already have. Love Ya Mary
I'm going to go with "nurse" too!
I just want the autographed picture! :)

Hi! I have never left a comment before but follow your blog. You are truly amazing and have the most love I have ever seen for your daughter. So sweet! I am guessing you are going to be a research analyst for SMARD and/or other muscular diseases/disorders and try to find a cure for this disease. You are awesome and way to go! Melissa

I am going to guess that you are going to continue to do amazing things in your life. You would make such an amazing doctor and/or counselor. Doctors counsel more than they want to sometimes. I am so proud of you and hope you know my love always follows you.
I didn't comment on this right away because I wanted to think about it for awhile...but I have gotten no where with it! I don't think you will go the nurse or doctor route, I think you will go the fancy scientist or research route...that is my official guess but...I think we all have it wrong though and you are going to surprise us with something completely unrelated, like the Vet that someone guessed or something.
I always read your blog and I'm not much of a "commenter" though! But I just think you are so amazing and beautiful!!! Everyone has definatly stolen my idea...BUT I'm going to go with Nurse??? Yeah.
Sorry if I have commented twice! Maybe the first one just didn't show up?! I always read your blog. I think you are soo amazing and talented and beautiful! I am guessing...Nurse!
My guess is.... a journalist/writer. You are so great at expressing yourself and letting others feel what your going through. You amaze me with every post you make. =) You truly are an inspiration
I am going to guess that you are going to become a JOURNALIST and/or WRITER of some kind. :) You are so amazing at putting your thoughts into words and allowing everyone to really 'feel' what your going through just by the words you use. You are truly an inspiration to me. Thank you.
I am going to guess a scientist who specializes in SMAR/SMARD research....

I think nurse! I was thinking social worker in a hospital (like me!) but it doesn't take that much school. I think it will be some sort of helping, nuturing position which is why I am thinking nurse. Good luck with whatever it is though- I am excited to read more about it/
Okay, so I know it's been said about 20 or so times already, but I'm really thinking a pediatrician or peds nurse. You would be great at anything you do. I can tell that just by reading your blog. What an amazing opportunity for you....congratulations!! ((hugs))
I am going to guess a pediatrician...your love for children and through Makenzie's inspiration I think this fits you!
I have been following your journey over a year now...I have never commented. I have cried with you, smiled with you and laughed with you. My heart goes out to you! I have a little girl that had a liver transplant at 7 months and I know what I felt...nothing even close to you but I feel your hurt! Please know I keep you and your family in my prayers daily! You are amazing! =)
Hugs,
