donations

Whenever I see a pair of leggings I think of Makenzie. Doesn't matter the color, the look, I imagine her skinny little chicken legs in them. This girl became famous in the PICU because of these things. One of the first things that came to mind after Kenzie passed away was to make these and donate them to the PICU in honor of our daughter. I have talked to several people at PCMC and they all love the idea. The thing that's great about these is you can not only wear them on your legs but your arms. They will keep these kids warm- seriously those rooms are freezing. Through the rest of this year I am asking for donations. They can come in the form of knee high adults socks that I can make into leggings, already made baby leggings
(called baby legs ), or if you could donate a few dollars to help the project.

On December 13 2010 my family and I are going to visit the children's hospital and give them our gifts. My goal is to donate close to 150 leggings!

*Here are some examples of the adult KNEE high socks that can be donated. They need to be fun/funky/different patterns or solid colors (no boring white please)
*For these socks, I was planning on sewing them myself along with some family members that have offered to help but if you would like to help sew them- please email me and ill send you the instructions and patterns. (I promise, its really easy)
*You can buy these socks at numerous places. I usually get them at target because you can buy 3 for around $6.
*If you will be sending these socks or money donations please have them to me no later than September 1st so I can have enough time to sew them. You can email me for my address.
*Here is what they look like when they are done. I will be making numerous sizes so not just infants can wear them.

*These are the already made-nothing else to do but stick those cute things on a pair of fat, plump, or skinny legs.
*You can buy these at target, walmart, kid to kid, any baby boutique or online at http://www.babylegs.com/. They are more expensive (around $8-$10) a pair but there is no work to be done and they fit for quite a bit longer than the homemade leggings.

Please dont feel obligated to help, this is only if you want to.
This project means a lot to me.
If I only donate 10 pairs- Ill be happy because 10 little legs or arms will be warm and 10 little angels will get to know my angel a bit better.
If you have any questions please email me:
kendogg1987@hotmail.com.

*and for my inspiration*

I am a beginner sewer, so if I can't make them then I will just ship them on to you, but I would love to help cut some work out for you if I am able to. You are so sweet for doing this and many children will be blessed by you and Makenzie. SO SWEET!!

Kendra: I'm IN !
in looking at all the comments, you are really going to have a wonderful gift to leave for other sick babies from your beautiful Mckenzie. We will be in Utah in about three weeks so I will bring my "socks" with me. I would also like the instructions.
See you soon. Love, Aunt Joyce

I have been checking in on your blog every now and then. Your story has touched me. My heart aches for you that you can't have her to hold right now. Please know that even though I don't know you...I think about you often. My son goes to Primary's every now and then and whenever I am there I can't help but think of you and a couple other moms I've found who have lost their babies. It feels so real...almost like I'm living your nightmare. I'm so sorry.

I would love to help with your project! Would you please email me instructions at heatha_liva at hotmail dot com

Thank you and may God bless you!

Hi Kendra,
I saw this on Robin's facebook and I would love to help. If you want to get me the pattern me and my daughter can make some. I also am going to be holding a boutique in June and would love to ask others to help if you would like we could have a area by the register were people could donate and we can also advertise in advance if they would like to bring socks or baby legs with them. Let me know what you think, my email is heartfeltwallhangings@yahoo.com.

I've made a couple of pairs for my daughter. We really like the baby legs and think they are so cute. Will you send me your pattern so I can compare our patterns? I would want to make them according to Kenzie's standards! :) I'm usually pretty busy but a year might give me time to whip together a couple of pairs. Where would we send them when they are complete? Also, just FYI, I have a friend who makes these and sells them at boutiques. She has found some of the socks at dollar stores. Just an idea. My mom also found some a while back for cheap at Harmons. How random? A grocery store!

Please send me the instructions. I would love to help in anyway I can. I live within 15 minutes of a Childrens Trama Center and Hospital. I could donate at the same time here for them in Wisconsin in Kenzie's name. What a great way to spread her memory. Childrens hospital also has Neonatal ICU as well as a PICU. My email is nanaseeu2@yahoo.com Thank you and God bless you and your family.

Kendra,
I was so touched by your story. I lost a 2yr old 20 years ago from similar physical difficulties, and without the help from a special friend who made a special foam "chair" for him his short life would have been so uncomfortable.....I would love to help make some of these along with some others from my ward here in Australia. Please send the pattern and instructions to karen@accc.net.au....we will make some to send to you and also look at a project for hospitals here in OZ.
Your little angel will sure be smiling at you from beyond the veil.

Could you just post the directions somewhere or post a link to an acceptable tutorial. I'd like to make some and refer some friends, but I'm sure it'd be easier on you to post it once instead of responding to us all.

Not sure how often you check this and are able to reply, but babylegs is having a sale today if you go through facebook (I think you can find it without going through facebook). It is three leg warmers for $10. It is there boy set, but those boys need them too. Some of them girls could where too. Anyway if you send me your address I would love to ship them too you. I would rather order them directly to you and not ship them twice. I just read the story 2 days ago, but every time I see leg warmers I'll think about your daughter.
